rewatching an episode of season one of merlin right now, i have a lot of thoughts (arthur legit looks so young it’s messing with my mind realizing how much the characters grow over the seasons and oh my lordy merlin used to be so pure, so trusting, so naive *ugh*) but one thing that just popped into my head: how small Camelot looks.
this is probably due to budget reasons, but the fact that random people can show up and demand an audience with uther or appear mysteriously and meet with a prince, it just makes me wonder what that must have been like for merlin both during his time in camelot and after
we’re talking a kingdom’s whose golden age was in an era of petty states and kings, a few centuries after the fall of the roman empire. merlin fics sometimes bring up how popular merlin is among the people of camelot. it highlights the unspoken notion that camelot and its nobles and royals aree within degrees of separation.
the world, after arthur’s death, must have gotten so frightfully big for merlin. i just think, what if merlin had served arthur or another such king in a later era when the size of the kingdom was so much larger? remove the feudalistic background, if that is what they were going for in the series, and who is merlin? its for that reason that i love the joke that merlin would lowkey be a monarchist because yeah, merlin lived an early era of kings where royals could be in such close proximity and held to the standards of their people.

cc facts while this is my permanent account now i guess? xD (more under the cut)
There are approximately 1500+ countries on Arda (Earth). The entirety of the Earth is protected by the EMCU, centered in The Benevolent and Blessed Confederacy of Missouri, in the Former United States Region. The Exoversal Major Crimes Unit is lead by Trippz Grissom, who came from the Unity Hearts Multiversal Cluster. The Crossover Chaos Exoverse was formed from a parental dispute between Xedra Colmare, and her then-husband Xalgoth. Their dispute was so explosive, that it destroyed Exoverse Zero, and started the First Exoverse. The couple had 3 sons, and 1 daughter that they were fighting over. Bone, the oldest, Venom, the second oldest, Ice, the second youngest, and the only daughter, and then the baby of the children, Qhkarus Colmare, who later reincarnated into Puggsy (Fangface). Fanboy (Fanboy and Chum Chum) is in the Adventurer's Club (Mission: Magic!) due to being in a relationship with the leader, Kim Yu. He loves her to pieces, and they are due to marry within a few weeks as of this writing.
Fred Jones and Daphne Blake (Scooby Doo) ended up together, and ended up having kids. Velma is an eternal bachelor, and Shaggy ended up with Makoto of Jupiter, also known as Sailor Jupiter. (This was inspired by ScoobMoonBusters) Fangs (Fangface) is gay, and ended up with a skateboarder by the name of Ken Hunter. They were both famous in the 2000s for their skateboarding, so they are considered a power couple. Winston Zeddemore ended up retiring from the Ghostbusters, and is now married to Queen Ti'yah Clarke of the Desert Nekonian peoples. He is also a Monster Hunter, and is good friends with Black Panther and the people of Wakanda. Nagisa Misumi and Honoka Yukishiro (Futari Wa Pretty Cure) are married. They still have their Precure powers in this universe, and Nagisa is a high ranking commander in the Japanese Defense Force. She is semi-retired from it, though, but can still be called in if there's a situation. Honoka works at S.H.I.E.L.D as a scientist, alongside Velma Dinkley, Tom Van Beuren (Van Beuren Tom and Jerry), also of the Antiknyghtz!, and many others. Eugene Meltsner (Adventures in Odyssey) is an alien, his blood originating from the planet Bagklock. He is of the Ixfay tribe, and is a Bagklockian Skypiean. His real name is Yuija Malznar, and he is of blood related to the previous royal family. He cannot step foot on Bagklock due to that fact, and has lived on the planet of Avalon most of his life. Milkweed (Fanboy and Chum Chum), Hogwarts and Sakurazami (Magic School from Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure) are part of the same school system. Hikaru Hoshina (Star Twinkle Pretty Cure) went here in Crossover Chaos after graduating her canon school. This is where she met Gastoon Lagaffe (formerly Bow Lagaffe), and Kyle Bloodsworth-Tomason. They currently share an apartment together. Shantae is in a relationship with Vinnie Malaproper (Mission: Magic!). Because of this, she is semi-retired from protecting Sequin Land, which is situated in the Caribbean in this universe. If shit goes down, though, she will go there and save the day. Vinnie often comes along when this happens. The Lylat System (Star Fox) is a dead galaxy. It is currently being mined by the Byakkan Empire, a black comedy parody of KallyPanaStudio's Jellielandia. John Avery Whittaker (Adventures in Odyssey) is a retired Green Lantern. He used to fight alongside Hal Jordan back in the day, and retired during the Blackest Night Crisis. Beatrix (Gaston) Lagaffe is a Grey Jedi. She used to be a true Jedi, but then lost her mind, becoming what she is now. She is also a Grendel, a space werewolf species, is queen of them, and is also a trans woman. Gaston, her name in original canon, is instead her deadname. British Columbia, a capitalist country originally part of Canada, and Alberta, a communist country also originally part of Canada, constantly butt heads over a lot of stupid stuff. The rest of the 1500+ countries in the world think they're idiots. In the ancient past, an ancestor of Housemaster (Arfenhouse) came to Earth from space and landed in Ancient Ireland. His spaceship looked like a toaster, and he even called it such. Hence, why the country of Ulster is named such, and why toasters are named toasters. Wreck-it Ralph and Fix-it Felix are the mail carriers for Muncie, the Democratic Protectorate of Indiana. They have rubbed shoulders with Garfield and Jon Arbuckle, by the way, and are aware of Garfield's heritage from the Stars and Stripes Supergalaxy, and his ties to the Biker Brethren of the planet of Washington. They find it super ridiculous. Sailor Moon and Goku are married, and rule the Moon Kingdom together, due to the fact that Tuxedo Mask and Chichi died heroically in the Exoversal War. Chibiusa in the Crossover Chaos universe's father is Goku, hence she has a pink Saiyan tail. The universe of Ni No Kuni is one of many "parallel universes" in Crossover Chaos, and Swaine Pendragon, who in this universe is a Naga, comes from that universe. Parallel Universes and Alternate Universes are different things. Parallels are universes where there are different people existing then the main verse. Alternates are where the same people exist as the main verse, but are under different circumstances then the main verse. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is in the same school system as U.A. High School (My Hero Academia) and the Splitsboro Sidekick Academy (Sidekick), among others. The Time Knife (The Good Place) is on Pluto, in the Time Palace. It is watched 24/7 by guards that are trained from birth to protect it.

[presence concealment (B)]
[Magic resistance (B)]
[Charisma (B)] Active skills: [The Beloved court jester (A)]: as the court jester serving the king of knights, he was required to attend every formal event in Camelot. Being a jester, he could be as overt as possible and almost never go noticed. This served him well in gathering secrets by listening into conversations, even learning the darkest kept secrets of the king and queen themselves. This skill also gives him a sort of charisma. [A false persona (A)]: Even a fake smile, with enough effort put into it, can even surpass the smile of the happiest man in the world. Even though he works in high society, he was born as a commoner near the border between Camelot and France. He is very cynical as a person and has a distaste for most of nobility, but because of his role as the jester, he must put on a happy face and smiling facade for the nobles he hates. There has only ever been one person to ever make him feel at ease enough to let down his mask, and that was the person he loved. [The rebellion of grief (EX)]: the person he loved is dead. The person he loved died at the hand of the king. The person he loved was the child of the king... but the king dragged the corpse of his love by their hair through the entirety of Camelot for all to see for daring to rebel against the king. I can never forgive the king. I can never forgive that king. I will never forgive that damnable king who killed their child who only wanted to be loved by her... I WILL NEVER FORGIVE ARTORIA PENDRAGON!!! So in my mixture of grief, horror, and rage, i will rebel against the kingdom and burn the ashes!!! Noble Phantasm: [La Rébellion Du Sang Arthur: rebellion against that damnable king] Rank: A type: Anti-Fortress description: a unstoppable Technique and slash based attack reminiscent of the ultimate attack of his love, Clarent Blood Arthur. it can be used with any weapon in his possession, but he favors using it with Calabron, the sword of his love, or Dias Requiem, his staff/spear. [Le Requiem Du Sang Mordred: Requiem for the one I love] Rank: EX Type: Anti-Army (Self) Description: the love of the person he loves made manifest. it his most treasured noble phantasm because it is the physical representation of the person he loves love for him. it acts as the ultimate defensive noble phantasm, only being matched by Avalon. as long as their love for him lasts, and his love for them lasts, he will always be protected and healed. together, their love can stop the end of the universe, if it means there is a chance to see each other once more, to embrace each other once more... so he will forever cherish this noble phantasm, for it tells him that even after death, their love for him lasts forever. [Calabron: sword of the destined Heir] Rank: C Type: Anti-Unit description: the sword was not originally his. It belonged to his love before they picked up the royal sword Clarent. They passed the sword onto him as a sign of their love for him, and as such he wields it with pride and love. Its main effects sealed besides a passive enchantment gained by it originally being Mordred’s weapon, that being channeling Prana and turning hatred and emotion into energy. [Dias Requiem: Spear of deceived death] Rank: C Type: Anti-Unit Description: a weapon hiding in plain sight, waiting to be used. he carried this spear from his home village. it was disguised as a Baton so he could always have a weapon in political gatherings. it has a limited dimension refraction effect of launching 1 real and 4 fake attacks that can all become the true attack at a moment’s notice. a true weapon of deceit.

The fact ingrid struggle due to the idea of being a knight, I think the "expectation of being beautiful and sweet" fit, especially with his knighthood is usually associated with the fair lady and the gallant knight protecting her.
So I think women in Faerghus' popular culture have a hybrid role, varying between the positions of the fair maid or wife and the mighty warrior, with the shift away from the warrior woman being noticeable the more away from Crested women (Catherine/Cassandra of House Charon, Margravine Letitia and ingrid), as without Crests, the women aren't these glorious force multipliers.
I never compared Faerghus' patriarchy to Adrestia, so please don't do that, I love both regions (I love all 4 lords actually, even if my favorite is Dimitri now) but Adrestia isn't the point.
As for OG Fraldarius, this post talk of how OG Fraldarius is tied to her family's role as shield of Faerghus https://www.tumblr.com/deafeningbarbarianbirdj/705277557586755584/okay-so-ten-elites-in-fire-emblem-they-have?source=share
Also, this one talk of Faerghus and nemesis https://houses.fedatamine.com/en-us/monastery/16#event-base-4-18
That+ when we compare clothing, we see how Dimitri and nemesis can give off similar vibe, and add onto it the culture of strength of Faerghus and the idea of vendetta they have.
Now, I don't view Faerghus as a "land of vengeance-worshipping psychos" as some would call them, especially since the school of magic, attended by people across Northern Fódlan+ a few Adrestians indicate a real scholarly culture, and the Faerghians need to be strong to survive, but still.
And king Arthur isn't a key part of England or Britain's national identity, even for the middle ages, rather it's the mythic figure that is very respected but who's line died, also, the super powerful sword and Pendragon (dragon head) fit.
Loog is, despite not being a foreigner to Faerghus, closer to William the conqueror, the bastard of Normandy, since the royal houses of England and after it the united kingdom descend from him like the Blaiddyds are the royal house of Faerghus only once Loog take the crown.
IMO, Fraldarius is key to the idea of warrior women because she was the warrior woman of the elites, though yes, Kyphon outshine her because he's closer in time and helped found the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, while Nemesis was the king of Faerghus but the region would have only been the center of his domains.
How can a culture who's one of its Matriarchs is a mighty warrior reject the idea of warrior women? Basically that's how I see it.
It's especially important because the only other woman of the elites, Lamine, was a mage rather than a close range fighter, and beside, her line sticked with Adrestia, unlike that of Fraldarius.
Also, I would argue the lack of active mentions from her come from a lack of interest by the narrative to focus on such details as how the Elites influenced Faerghus, and the perception of warrior women as a whole instead of Ingrid's specific situation.
Just like how all of Fódlan is kinda underdeveloped on many points lore wise and narratively.
Also, considering the respect of strength in Faerghus, Seiros defeating Nemesis making her highly respected make sense, same for Wilhelm, as they were overall kinda underdogs, not too much, but still, they were not at an advantage number wise considering there were 5 Saints+Wilhelm vs 11 elites+ Nemesis, especially since nations can have contradicting national heroes, which is reinforced by adding religion into the mix, since the church of Seiros helped found the Holy Kingdom.
IMO, the elites aren't national heroes, they're legendary figures and low-key carry some worship-like following, especially since the Church of Seiros ended up making them out as once being the Goddess' chosen, but they're far away that they're not national heroes.
But their legendary status still have important effect, such as Fraldarius for warrior women, especially since while Fraldarius is the Matriarch of Felix's house, she's definitely Ingrid and Catherine's ancestor as well because intermarriage of Houses.
Edit : also, reddit page from where I got the information on Faerghus and nemesis
Did Cap’n completely forget that noblewomen in Faerghus are expected to be competent warriors too and the whole paralogue where Ingrid’s dad gives her a legendary weapon so that she can be a better warrior????? Since when is Ingrid pressured into giving up horse-riding and sword fighting???
I haven't engaged much with the fic, but given how Ingrid's dilemna is simply resolved by her talking to her father...
Methinks Faerghus isn't that "toxic masculine chivalry" at all, if Dad Galatea accepts his daughter's wish to become a knight serving her King...
But this resolution happens in her support with Seteth and in AM, so that's two hurdles one might not have been willing to cross when reading or writing that fic.
Dirty lizards are evil, and cannot understand humanity, after all.
It seems men and women are both expected to be martially able in Faerghus - Gautier expects a crested child, not a crested son to protect the border.
If you want more gender discussions about being a knight, ASOIAF gives a good exemple through Brienne of Tarth : she cannot perform the roles given to women because of her appearance, and she wants to be a "true knight" something that is traditionnaly masculine. But Brienne never thinks "women" sucks or wishes she was a man, Brienne wants to be a "true knight", a "true knight" is a knight who fights and dies to protect the people, it doesn't matter if the knight is a man, or a woman.
In the same vein, you have GOT (the TV series) butchering Arya Stark's character in the early seasons, where she answers "girls sucks" when someone tells her women can't be king or something, whereas book!Arya cites a famous woman, who was also a warrior and a queen (iirc?).
ASOIAF plays with this notion, gender doesn't matter whether one wants to be a knight, a ruler or whatever else. Rather, it does matter, but it shouldn't.
So to see "The Aeneid" ascribe to the same convoluted notions, when the source material challenges said notion, is a bit infuriating. Canon!Ingrid might remind Cap!Ingrid that being a knight is not incompatible with being a woman, that women in Fodlan have long fought alongside men and weren't stuck to the kitchen, and how the evil lizard dictator she swore to kill is actually a woman who led a war and killed the Hero of Humanity on her own.

Why a Newly Approved Plan to Build a Tunnel Beneath Stonehenge Is So Controversial

Why a Newly Approved Plan to Build a Tunnel Beneath Stonehenge Is So Controversial
Tumblr media
Every year, more than one million tourists flock to Stonehenge to marvel at the hulking rock formations erected by Neolithic builders roughly 5,000 years ago. But some visitors find themselves faced with a decidedly less awe-inspiring scene: a noisy two-lane highway, often choked with cars, that cuts straight through the grassy slopes surrounding the ancient monument.
After decades of debate and planning, the British government has finally approved a proposal to build a tunnel moving this road, the A303, underground. The United Kingdom’s transport secretary, Grant Shapps, greenlit the $2.25-billion (£1.7 billion) project last week despite strong objections from archaeologists and preservationists, who fear that construction will result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of artifacts, report Gwyn Topham and Steven Morris for the Guardian.
Currently, the section of the A303 by Stonehenge supports about twice as much traffic as it was designed to accommodate. According to Highways England, the government company set to construct the road, the new plan will create an eight-mile stretch of dual carriageway that travels through a tunnel for a two-mile stretch as it passes the prehistoric stones.
The tunnel will stand about 55 yards farther away from Stonehenge than the existing A303, reports Brian Boucher for artnet News. According to proposals on Highway England’s website, tunnel entrances will be disguised with grassed-over canopies and will remain “well out of sight” of Stonehenge.

The new plan will redesign A303 to run underground. Currently, the road cuts straight through the designated historic land surrounding Stonehenge.
(Highways England)
Supporters of the plan argue that the tunnel will reduce the noise and smells of a busy road while offering Stonehenge visitors a relatively unimpeded view of their surroundings. Officials say the expanded lanes will also decrease traffic bottlenecks—something this stretch of road is notorious for, according to Roff Smith of National Geographic.
“Visitors will be able to experience Stonehenge as it ought to be experienced, without seeing an ugly snarl of truck traffic running right next to it,” Anna Eavis, curatorial director for English Heritage, the charity that cares for the historic site, tells National Geographic.
Kate Mayor, CEO of English Heritage, voiced her support for the plan in a statement provided to NPR’s Reese Oxner.
“Placing the noisy and intrusive A303 within a tunnel will reunite Stonehenge with the surrounding prehistoric landscape and help future generations to better understand and appreciate this wonder of the world,” says Mayor.
Archaeologists, however, contend that the tunnel’s construction could destroy valuable archaeological evidence yet to be discovered in the site’s topsoil. Mike Parker Pearson, a scholar of British later prehistory at University College London and a member of Highway England’s independent A303 scientific committee, tells the Observer’s Tom Wall that the project’s contractors will only be expected to retrieve and preserve 4 percent of artifacts uncovered in ploughed soil during the construction process.
“We are looking at losing about half a million artifacts—they will be machined off without recording,” says Pearson, who is part of a team that has been excavating a site near the proposed western tunnel entrance since 2004.
He adds, “You could say ‘they are just a bunch of old flints’ but they tell us about the use of the Stonehenge landscape over the millennia.”
youtube
Experts also assert that the region could hold many new surprises: This summer, archaeologists discovered a circle of enormous ancient pits encircling Stonehenge—a find that “completely transformed how we understand [the] landscape,” lead researcher Vincent Gaffney of the University of Bradford told the New York Times’ Megan Specia in June. Now, Gaffney warns that future finds of this magnitude could be lost due to construction work.
“Remote sensing has revolutionized archaeology and is transforming our understanding of ancient landscapes—even Stonehenge, a place we thought we knew well,” he says to National Geographic. “Nobody had any idea these were there. What else don’t we know?”
David Jacques—director of the Blick Mead archaeological dig, which has unearthed crucial information about the humans who lived near Stonehenge as early as 8,000 B.C.— tells the Guardian that the decision to build the tunnel is “absolutely gut-wrenching” and “a head-bangingly stupid decision.”
Critics of the construction project include the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the British Archaeological Trust and the Stonehenge Alliance, which launched a petition calling to “save Stonehenge … from the bulldozers.” (The call to action garnered more than 150,000 signatures.) Additionally, Arthur Pendragon, a prominent modern-day druid, tells the Observer that he plans to lead protests against the construction.
In 2019, Unesco’s World Heritage Committee condemned the plan, saying it would have an “adverse impact” on the “outstanding universal value” of the site. As BBC News reported at the time, the group called for the creation of longer tunnel sections that would “reduce further the impact on the cultural landscape.”
English Heritage and Highways England say that the project’s staff will take extensive steps to ensure that the historic land and its treasures are disturbed as little as possible during construction.
“We already have a good idea of what’s there and there will be a full program of mitigation to ensure that any archaeology that isn’t preserved in situ is fully recorded,” Eavis tells the Observer.
Speaking with the Observer, Derek Parody, the project’s director, adds, “We’re confident that the proposed scheme presents the best solution for tackling the longstanding bottleneck on this section of the A303, returning the Stonehenge landscape to something like its original setting and helping to boost the south-west economy.”

(GENEVA) — The World Health Organization on Sunday reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours.
The UN health agency said Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the U.S. next at 36,617. Over 15,400 came in in India.
Experts said rising case counts can reflect multiple factors including more widespread testing as well as broader infection.
Overall in the pandemic, WHO reported 8,708,008 cases — 183,020 in the last 24 hours — with 461,715 deaths worldwide, with a daily increase of 4,743.
More than two-thirds of those new deaths were reported in the Americas.
In Spain, officials ended a national state of emergency after three months of lockdown, allowing its 47 million residents to freely travel around the country for the first time since March 14. The country also dropped a 14-day quarantine for visitors from Britain and the 26 European countries that allow visa-free travel.
But there was only a trickle of travelers at Madrid-Barajas Airport, which on a normal June day would be bustling.
“This freedom that we now have, not having to justify our journey to see our family and friends, this was something that we were really looking forward to,” Pedro Delgado, 23, said after arriving from Spain’s Canary Islands.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged people to take maximum precautions: “The virus can return and it can hit us again in a second wave, and we have to do whatever we can to avoid that at all cost.”
At a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Trump said Saturday the U.S. has tested 25 million people, but the “bad part” is that it found more cases.
“When you do testing to that extent, you’re going to find more people, you’re going to find more cases,” Trump said. “So I said to my people, ‘Slow the testing down, please.’″
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said on CNN that Trump was being “tongue-in-cheek” and made the comment in a “light mood.”
Democratic rival Joe Biden’s campaign accused Trump of “putting politics ahead of the safety and economic well-being of the American people.”
The U.S. has the world’s highest number of reported infections, over 2.2 million, and the highest death toll, at about 120,000, according to Johns Hopkins. Health officials say robust testing is vital for tracking outbreaks and keeping the virus in check.
In England, lockdown restrictions prevented druids, pagans and party-goers on Sunday from watching the sun rise at the ancient circle of Stonehenge to mark the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. English Heritage, which runs the site, livestreamed it instead. A few people gathered outside the fence.
“You can’t cancel the sunrise,” druid Arthur Pendragon told the BBC.
The number of confirmed virus cases is still growing rapidly not only in the U.S. but in Brazil, South Africa and other countries, especially in Latin America.
Brazil’s Health Ministry said the total number of cases had risen by more than 50,000 in a day. President Jair Bolsonaro has been downplaying the risks even as his country has seen nearly 50,000 fatalities, the second-highest death toll in the world.
South Africa reported a one-day high of almost 5,000 new cases on Saturday and 46 deaths. Despite the increase, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a further loosening of one of the world’s strictest lockdowns. Casinos, beauty salons and sit-down restaurant service will reopen.
In the United States, the virus appears to be spreading across the West and South. Arizona reported over 3,100 new infections, just short of Friday’s record, and 26 deaths. Nevada also reported a new high of 445 cases.
In Europe, a single meatpacking plant in Germany has had over 1,000 cases, so the regional government issued a quarantine for all 6,500 workers, managers and family members.
In Asia, China and South Korea reported new coronavirus cases Sunday in outbreaks that threatened to set back their recoveries.
Chinese authorities recorded 25 new confirmed cases — 22 in Beijing. In the past week, Beijing tightened travel controls by requiring anyone who wants to leave the Chinese capital, a city of 20 million people, to show proof they tested negative for the virus.
In South Korea, nearly 200 infections have been traced to employees at a door-to-door sales company in Seoul, and at least 70 other infections are tied to a table tennis club there. But South Korean officials are reluctant to enforce stronger social distancing to avoid hurting the economy.

Under a cut, because it's long but reddit deserves it's own section lol
The post is peak 2021!Reddit starting with :
Tumblr media
And ending with :
Tumblr media
Complete with this thing dating from 3 years ago, aka 2021 :
Tumblr media
When the March 2020 interview was already out and revealed he did it to gain more power because he just wanted to farm powerful, shiny weapons.
It's a real timecapsule lol
Ingrid, at least canon!Ingrid, much like Catherine, never thought twice about being cute, proper and sweet, Cat kicks people in the groin and teaches Ingrid to do so, and I don't believe a second she only learnt to do it when she joined the Knights of Seiros.
My bad about Adrestia, it's just that discussing notions from fantasy games to compare them to RL issues/notions bores me (since RL has much more nuance and isn't as interesting/fun to talk about) so I tend to compare issues encountered by a woman in Fodlan to, issues encountered by another woman, living in another place in Fodlan more naturally, like, to me, it makes more sense to compare cream cheese to cheese than to compare it to chocolate.
Anyways, out with Adrestia then.
I'll check later on in Nopes' script about the line this blogger mentionned where Felix and Rodrigue call Fraldarius a Hero, but it sort of makes sense since, in the Official (TM) Narrative, Fraldarius might have fell, but she was a Hero at one point.
As for that NPC you linked to, who goes full on "once upon a time we conquered the world", Nemesis wasn't only loitering in Faerghus, his "land" was everywhere that wasn't Enbarr - later, Adrestia - from Goneril to Teutates and even beyond, the Empire started in Enbarr, then expanded and Nemesis was ultimately felled on Tailtean.
So while it's not wrong to say the Faerghus region was under Nemesis' rule before the Empire Adrestianised it, it's more appropriate to say Fodlan - sans Enbarr - was under Nemesis's rule, before the Empire conquered it.
Hmm...
Willy's direct line (by inheritence law) died out after the death of his fourth son Henri, but if we buy the blood ties from extended families and bastards being legitimed, without taking into account the War of Roses and later events, I guess you can say King Carlos 3 descends from Willy the Conqueror as much as some dude living in Deauville can claim to descend from Rollon himself.
That being said -
Willy the Bastard was some schmuck who wanted glory, acted as the vassal of the King of France and that time, and conquered the neighbouring Isles, importing his laws, language, customs and court (even if by the time the Plantagenets were kings, they prefered to ditch England to spend time in the Aquitaine!).
Loog... isn't a "foreigner" who conquered Faerghus, hell, he's part of the local aristocracy.
(If William the Conqueror should have an equivalent it'd be... Emperor Wilhelm popping up in Faerghus and conquering the land, both used flimsy reason to justify their claim and conquest!).
A member of the local aristocracy, who gets a strange magic weapon for a dubious source fighting against germanic coded foes to unite his land, and was assisted by his trusted bunch of knights, who am I talking about ? Loog or King Arthur?
(tfw pan dressed up as a lady in a lake)
As for the general vibes regarding their clothing, Nemesis forgot to wear pants and shirts and had no piece of armor, when Dimitri, even in his academy days, had some. Bar the big fur cap, they dress very differently.
Faerghus might have a culture where being able to survive the harsh climate is important, they are also known to trade (Dominic!), as you pointed out, have schools of magic (not only Adrestians and Farghians attend, Lorenz did too!) and have those so decried chivarly values that means they should help and support people in need, instead of doing whatever Nemesis did to random Nabatean #12 living in Zanado.
Nemesis, through his short dialogue in VW and FEH, believes in a might makes right mindset, Faerghus believes in a "power comes with responsibility and duty to protect your people".
It's basically an antithesis to what Nemesis used to champion, and much closer to what the Nabateans, through the CoS, preach.
The key "warrior woman", if there is one, in Faerghus isn't Fraldarius, but if Ingrid's suggestion to Ignatz are any indication, it's Saint Seiros herself.
It's mostly a joke at this point and pure nonsense, but after FEH first released them drawn by the same artist, I can't unsee Ingrid trying to emulate Saint Seiros by braiding her hair lol
Again, I don't see where you get the "Faerghus rejects the idea of warrior women" because, Catherine, Ingrid and Anette are pretty much alright with become warriors and no one gives them any flak for being on the front lines, just like Laetitia Gautier, or even that knight in Ashe'n'Hapi's story.
Sure, they all have crests and it's a shame that the game doesn't bother giving us more named characters without crests to make a definite answer, but from what I remember, Nopes has several female Kingdom loldiers and/or generals (the NPCs you talk to when you explore?) so...
Fodlan (Faerghus)'s notion of chivalry isn't the same one that is romanced in some RL parts of the world where women might have been seen as prizes to save/win (and I say in some parts of the world, or with a surface knowledge of RL events!).
Trying to keep Adrestia mentions to a minimum - Lamine's scions ended up in Adrestia but were so "unimportant" that when their House fell, said scions were on the marriage market to be wed to the first moron around.
Faerghus might have given nobility titles to scions of the Elites and made them important members of the Kingdom, Adrestia basically throws them away and treats them as it treats commoners (to be honest, that's not only on families who descend from the Elites, given how Constance's House was nuked even if she has the crest of a Saint!), Mercie and her mom escaping, uh, stuff, by running away to... Faerghus!
I guess we can agree on Fodlan being underdeveloped at least lol
I'd say Faerghus respects Strength as much as any of the 3 nations do, but given how "chivalry" is one of their mottos, they value something else than "pure strength" - IDK how much of Rhea's teachings to "help each other in time of need without expecting anything back" built the "chivalry" aspect, but I'd say given how the CoS used to have influence in the rest of Fodlan and the rest of Fodlan dgaf anymore about helping the ones who cannot help themselves, either Kingdom peeps are more religious than the part of Fodlan who supposedly is ruled by her own descendants, or there was some other reason (land?) that makes them naturally inclined to support each other instead of valuing the ability to smack skulls.
